Experience the famous Karnak Temple and the remote Valley of the Kings, where ancient Egypt’s illustrious rulers found their final resting place.  Venture off the beaten path and explore sites such as the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut perched at the head of a valley overshadowed by the peak of the Thebes, and the Colossi of Memnon.  Visit the Egyptian museum of Antiquities in Cairo as well as The Great Pyramids that are the only remaining monuments of the ancient wonders of the world, a sight not to be forgotten on this spectacular journey.

DAY ONE – Sharm El Sheikh/Cairo

Depart the pier to Sharm El Sheikh Airport for a one hour flight to Cairo. Once you arrive at Cairo airport, you will board the coach and start the day by the visit of the Citadel & Mohamed Al mosque. The Citadel was fortified by the Ayyubid ruler Salah al-Din (Saladin) between 1176 and 1183 CE, to protect it from the Crusaders. Only a few years after defeating the Fatimid Caliphate, Saladin set out to build a wall that would surround both Cairo and Fustat.

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali is the most popular Islamic mosque among tourists. This mosque is also sometimes referred to as the Alabaster Mosque due to its extensive use of that stone on some of the exterior walls and other surfaces. Sometimes it is popularly known as al-qal’a, meaning citadel, and thus confused with the fortress in which it is located.

After lunch at a deluxe hotel you will start the visit of the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities.

The museum was established by the Egyptian government in 1835. The present museum building was built in 1900, in the neo classical style by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The museum exhibited collections now exceed 12,000 objects ranging from pre historic era to the Greco Roman period.

The museum consist of two floors, the museum’s ground floor follows the history of ancient Egypt, and  the second floor consists of  thousands of smaller items from the span of Egyptian history.  One of the most important rooms in the Egyptian museum is on the second floor that includes the treasure of Tutankhamun the boy-king who ruled Egypt for nine years. Beyond his famous treasures, and his god-like golden mask, Tutankhamun appears as a shadowy figure in Egyptian history. The pharaoh is indeed gone, but the mightiness of his treasures still fascinates us to this very day.  Next, you will also be visiting the Mummies room where you can come face to face with some of the great rulers of ancient Egypt.

After this visit you will check-in at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza Hotel. You will enjoy free time at leisure followed by dinner at your hotel and overnight.

Overnight at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza (or similar) – Cairo

DAY TWO – Cairo/Luxor

Have lunch in one of the deluxe hotels followed by the visit of the great Pyramids of Giza located 9 miles (14 km) west of Cairo.

The Great Pyramids are considered the most famous of Egypt’s attractions and the only monuments left of the ancient wonders, the three main Pyramids at Giza were built as tombs by Cheops, his son Chephren, and Chephren’s son Mykiernus to preserve each of the pharaohs’ mummified body for eternity. For centuries, these unique structures have intrigued the world while surviving the rise and fall of great dynasties.

A short drive takes you to the top of the plateau for a panoramic view across the desert and the pyramids. A string of camels usually provide great photo opportunities for a nomimial fee.  Southeast of the great pyramid stands the sphinx carved out of solid rock around 2650 BC. Steeped in legend and superstition, the sphinx was a monument either to the sun god Ra or to Pharaoh Chephren.  It has the head of a man and the body of a lion. The monument faces east, probably to greet the rising sun and the return of life each day.

After the visit of the Pyramids and before driving to your hotel there will be a 30 minute shopping stop followed by buffet lunch at Fairmont Heliopolis hotel before proceeding to Cairo airport for a flight to Luxor.

Upon your arrival at Luxor airport, you will start by visiting Luxor Temple. Luxor Temple is a large ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River in the city today known as Luxor (ancient Thebes) and was founded in 1400 BC. Known in the Egyptian language asipet resyt, or "the southern sanctuary".

After check-in at Sonesta Hotel, enjoy the evening at leisure or choose to join the optional excursion to attend the English speaking laser show at the Karnak temple.  Dinner is served at the hotel.

Overnight at the Sonesta St Geroge (or similar) – Luxor

DAY THREE – Luxor/Safaga

After breakfast, cross the Nile to the West Bank for a visit to the Valley of the Kings. During a period of 500 years from the 16th to 11th century B.C., tombs were constructed in this Theban Necropolis for the kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom.

Visit the Karnak temple that was the most important sanctuary of ancient Egypt and the heart of the cult of the God Amon. The temple is considered to be the largest complex ever built in history with 250 acres of land with the largest hall of columns, 134 in total, and it also includes a 97 foot high Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut carved from a solid piece of pink granite. At the south end you will find the sacred lake where ceremonial boats took part in the worship of Amon.

The ‘wadi’ consists of two valleys, the East Valley, where the bulk of the royal tombs are situated, and the West Valley. To date, 63 tombs have been discovered, with chambers ranging in size from a simple pit to a complex tomb with over 120 chambers. Most of the tombs were cut into the limestone, and took six years to complete, depending upon their size. The most notable tomb which you will be visiting is King Tutankhamun, as it includes a display of the young king’s mummified body.

Following your visit, a photo stop is made at the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, which is dramatically perched at the head of a valley overshadowed by the peak of the Thebes. Queen Hatshepsut was the fifth pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Ancient Egypt. Egyptologists generally regard her as one of the most successful pharaohs, reigning longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty.

A final photo stop is made at the Colossi of Memnon, a pair of colossal statues standing alone in a farmer’s field.  The statues are all that remains of the Temple of Amenhotep III.

Enjoy lunch at your hotel followed by check-out before starting your journey to Safaga port to embark your ship.
