There are few places in the world that evoke such profound impact on its visitors as the Taj Mahal in Agra. Once the capital of the great Mughal Empire, Agra in itself is well worth a visit for its repository of some of the Mughals’ most famous monuments. Both the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1983.

DAY ONE – Mumbai/Delhi/Agra

Depart the ship after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your scheduled 2 hour flight to Delhi. Upon arrival, you are met and taken to The Taj Mahal Hotel for lunch. The Taj Mahal Hotel New Delhi is situated  in the bustling heart of New Delhi and represents elegant old-world luxury with the most modern amenities.

Commence the journey to Agra, a drive of approximately 3.5 hours with a rest stop en route.

Welcome to Agra! As the capital of the Mughal dynasties in the 16th and 17th centuries, Agra also was the repository of many of the Mughals most famous monuments. The city has long astonished visitors with sites that date back to the Mughal empire. On arrival, transfer to The Oberoi Amarvilas. The luxury hotel is a mere 650 yards (600 metres) from the Taj Mahal, thus offering you a first glimpse of the stunningly beautiful mausoleum.  Check-in, freshen up as dinner is served at the hotel.

Overnight accommodation at The Oberoi Amarvilas -Agra

DAY TWO – Agra/New Delhi

Early this morning, proceed for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal – Shah Jehan’s enduring monument to love. The unique beauty of this magnificent mausoleum in pure white marble provides a breathtaking image as soon as you emerge from the arched entry gateway. Emperor Shah Jehan, fifth of the great Mughal emperors was devoted to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, meaning literally jewel of the palace. She died at the age of 39 giving birth to their fourteenth child. The shah envisioned a memorial that would surpass anything the world had ever seen. Thousands of labourers and skilled craftsmen from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy were commissioned to construct this incredible masterpiece. The rays of the rising sun make the monument a wonder to behold. You can enter the mausoleum and stroll around the extensive grounds.

Return to the hotel for breakfast.

Proceed to Agra Fort, the town’s second important attraction after the Taj Mahal. The massive fort contains within its 1.5 mile-long (2.5 km-long), red sandstone walls the imperial city of the Mughal rulers. It comprises fairy-tale palaces, audience halls and two beautiful mosques. Founded in the 16th century, the vast complex experienced many additions by subsequent rulers. Here Shah Jehan was held captive by his son and spent his days gazing out from his room toward the Taj Mahal across the river. Leave Agra Fort and return to The Oberoi Amarvilas for lunch.

After lunch, commence your approximately 4.5 hour return drive to Delhi with enroute comfort stops.

On arrival in Gurgaon check-in, to The Oberoi Gurgaon and enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Overnight accommodation at The Oberoi Gurgaon – New Delhi. Please note: The Oberoi New Dehli property is closed for renovation throughout 2017.

DAY THREE – Delhi/Mumbai/Cochin

After an early breakfast, check out and proceed to the airport. Check in for the approximately 2 hour, scheduled flight to Mumbai, anticipated to depart at approximately 9:45 am. On arrival in Mumbai connect for your flight to Cochin. Arrive in Cochin and transfer to the pier and re-join the ship awaiting your return.

4NT POST-CRUISE: SERENGETI SPLENDOURS Please check with your travel professional for details regarding visa and inoculation requirements for Kenya and Tanzania.  It is the responsibility of the guest to obtain all appropriate visas before your cruise. DAY 1 - ARRIVE…

Please check with your travel professional for details regarding visa and inoculation requirements for Kenya and Tanzania.  It is the responsibility of the guest to obtain all appropriate visas before your cruise.

DAY 1 – ARRIVE NAIROBI

As you disembark in Mombasa this morning, you are met by the local Silversea representative, and along with other guests are transferred to the airport for the flight to Nairobi.

On arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport, the local Silversea representative is on hand to greet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel.  Along the way, stop for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant for lunch.  Check-in at the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.   Dinner this evening is under your own arrangement.

Overnight at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel

DAY 2: NAIROBI / SERENGETI

After breakfast, check out and store your excess baggage that cannot accompany you at the hotel.  The local representative is on hand to assist with your transfer to Wilson Airport and check in for your flight to Serengeti (via Kilimanjaro).   As you change planes in Kilimanjaro, you are provided with a packed picnic lunch and assisted toward your onward flight to Serengeti.   Please note that you will not likely see Mount Kilimanjaro from the airport, however you may see it during landing or takeoff.

On arrival at Seronera airstrip, you are met and transferred through the renowned Serengeti National Park en route to the Four Seasons Lodge, enjoying a game-viewing drive en-route.

The Serengeti is arguably the most famous national park in the world; it perhaps defines the safari experience as surely as the wildlife that inhabit it. The famous short and long grass plains of the south slowly unfurl into the Acacia savannah of the central area, the hilly, more densely wooded areas of the north, and the extensive woodland in the western corridor, each with its own resident variations of African wildlife. The principal attraction of the Serengeti is the passing of the wildebeest migration: 1½ million wildebeest, and a retinue comprised of hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other plains game that follow close behind, stalked by the inevitable predators who make the most of the ‘feast’ close at hand.

The Four Seasons Lodge perfectly combines the intimacy of a lodge and the indulgence expected of a luxury hotel. Nestled within the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, in the vicinity of the great annual migration, the Four Seasons Lodge is a dream African hideaway offering spectacular views of wildlife, an active watering hole and superior accommodations.

Note: The precise timing of the Serengeti wildebeest migration is entirely dependent upon the rainfall patterns each year.

Dinner is enjoyed at the lodge.  Overnight at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.

DAY 3: SERENGETI

After breakfast, depart on a full day game viewing outing, accompanied by an experienced driver who also serves as your guide, thanks to his or her knowledge of the local area and its wildlife. Lunch boxes are available for a Four Seasons dining experience in the heart of the Serengeti, which is home to millions of stunning wildebeests during the migration period, as well as numerous species of birds and mammals, especially the big cats: leopards, cheetahs and lions.

Dinner is served again this evening at the lodge.  Overnight at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.

DAY 4: SERENGETI / NAIROBI

Following an early breakfast, check out and transfer to Seronera airstrip for your return flights to Nairobi.  You will once again fly via the airport at Kilimanjaro.  A Silversea representative is on hand to assist and provide packed picnic lunches.

Upon arrival at Nairobi airport, you are met again by the local representative and directed to your waiting vehicles.  Check in once again at the Norfolk Hotel. After you have had time to freshen up, enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the hotel.  Dinner this evening is on your own arrangements.

Overnight at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi

DAY 5:  DEPART NAIROBI

Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning.  Check-out time at the hotel is 10:00am.  If your flight today is late in the evening, you may wish to guarantee late check-out for an additional cost.  Please contact Silversea at least 30 days in advance to make these arrangements.

This description is a general overview of the highlights of this program. The local Silversea representative will do everything possible to insure that all of the sites described here are visited, though the tour sequence and specific sites mentioned is subject to change. Closure of some sites due to local or national holiday observances, flight schedules, weather or other factors may affect the program, and the local operator reserves the right to substitute other sites if necessary.

The contents and order of activities of this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice. Changes may be due to prevailing weather conditions and/or the movement of wildlife on the Game Reserve. Weather can be cool during early morning game drives in open vehicles when a windbreaker comes in handy. During the day, it can get extremely hot and sunhats, sun block and sunglasses are imperative. Remember to bring your camera and binoculars. Game drive vehicles traverse over uneven terrain making for ‘bumpy’ rides, and therefore are not recommended for anyone with back problems. This Land Adventure brings you close to nature; insects and other environmental exposure should be anticipated.

Silversea’s liability does not extend beyond the vessel.

Please check with your travel professional for details regarding visa and inoculation requirements for Kenya.  It is the responsibility of the guest to obtain all appropriate visas before your cruise.

DAY 1 – TUESDAY, 06 DECEMBER – MOMBASA / NAIROBI / NANYUKI

This morning disembark from the ship and transfer to Moi International Airport, for your flight into Nairobi and connecting flight to Nanyuki.

Your flight to Nanyuki will take 40-45 minutes.  For the flights Nairobi/Nanyuki/Nairobi the aircraft will be Cessna Caravans (10-seater), Twin Otter (16 seater), Let (18-seater) or Dash 7 (45-seater) depending on passenger load.

Your group is met on arrival and transferred to Mount Kenya Safari Club. A glass of sparkling wine and entertainment by local dancers insures a very warm welcome.

The Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club is one of Kenya’s most glamorous and long-established hotels. Set up by Hollywood movie star, William Holden, when he was at the height of his fame in the 1950s, the Mount Kenya Safari Club has hosted everyone from John Wayne to Catherine Deneuve.

Set on the forest-clad flanks of Mount Kenya, the Club has 115 rooms and bungalows, all with spectacular views of Mount Kenya. The 100 acres of landscaped gardens are set in 1,000 acres of private game reserve adjoining the vast Mount Kenya National Park. There’s a golf course, spa and swimming pool at the Lodge and nearby are all the game viewing opportunities of Laikipia. A great activity centre, the Safari Club is nonetheless first and foremost a luxury hotel. Its restaurants and bars all provide a high level service in one of the most beautiful spots in Africa.

After settling in, gather at the Rose Garden for a welcome cocktail and canapés.  Enjoy some time to relax before dinner is served at the club’s main restaurant.

DAY 2 – WEDNESDAY, 07 DECEMBER – MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB

After breakfast drive to Sweetwaters Game Reserve, Ol Pejeta for your morning game drive.

The 23,000-acre Sweetwaters Reserve is situated within the sprawling Ol Pejeta ranch with magnificent views across the plains to the peaks of Mount Kenya. A variety of plains game is found within the reserve and the big cats may also be seen. Orphaned rhino and warthog (one of which was the model for Pumba, from the movie the Lion King), which have been reared by hand, provide a wonderful treat for children, as does the chimpanzee sanctuary. The sanctuary houses chimps mainly from the Jane Goodall Institute in Burundi, where a great many were placed after being rescued. The sanctuary is a non-profit venture, which aims not only to cover the investment and operating costs of the sanctuary, but also to channel funds into the Jane Goodall Institute for conservation projects for chimpanzees in the wild throughout Africa.

Return to Mount Kenya Safari Club for lunch.

This afternoon your guide will assist to arrange for one of the complimentary activities available at the club including visit to the William Holden Animal Orphanage, nature walk, swimming, table tennis, giant jenga, English bowling, darts,  giant tic tac toe, American pool, giant ludo, croquet, badminton and dog walks.

Other optional activities available at a cost include massage & beauty treatment (US$40 – US$100), limited horse riding (US$33 per hour) and golf (Golf set rental US$25, caddy US$7 per round and green fees US$7 per person)

The evening is one of the many highlights of your safari, as you sit down to a Bush Banquet near River Likii. You dine under the star studded African sky (weather permitting), an experience that will bring back memories of Karen Blixen and Denys Finch-Hatton in ‘Out of Africa’.

Overnight at Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club

DAY 3 – THURSDAY, 08 DECEMBER – MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB / NAIROBI

After breakfast this morning, transfer back to the airstrip and fly to Nairobi.

The local Silversea representative is waiting to greet you.  From the airport your first stop is for lunch at the  Carnivore Restaurant.

The Carnivore Restaurant has become one of Nairobi’s musts!  Situated on the edge of Nairobi National Park, the Carnivore is – as the name suggests – a meat eater’s paradise.  The focal point of the main restaurant is the ‘roasting pit’ where an enormous variety of both game and domestic meat is roasted on huge metal spears.  Waiters bring these different meats to the table and carve onto piping hot plates.  Guests have the opportunity to sample an array of meats which may include some game meat: ostrich, hartebeest and crocodile.  Delicious sauces and crisp salads accompany the meal. Waiters continue their rounds until you admit defeat and lower your flag (provided on the table!). For ‘herbivores’ there is an extensive vegetarian menu.  If you have any room left after the unlimited servings, a variety of sweets are on offer before mugfuls of steaming Kenya coffee herald the end of the meal.

Fortified with a hearty meal, continue with your group to visit the Giraffe Centre and Daphne Sheldricks Animal Orphanage.

Giraffe Centre: is the headquarters for AFEW, the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife.  Made famous by ‘Daisy Rothschild’, a giraffe calf rescued from Soi, on the border of Western Kenya, Giraffe Centre was established in 1983 and the breeding programme has been a great success. Visitors can watch these gentle giants at eye level from a raised platform and hand-feed them.

Daphne is the widow of pioneer wildlife ranger David Sheldrick and has set up the orphanage on the edge of Nairobi National Park to successfully raise orphaned wild animals (mainly elephant and rhino) and reintroduce them into the wild.
