Excursions

Discover the natural splendour, rich history and centuries-old traditions of Mayotte during a full-day excursion around this exquisite island.

Botanical Gardens

Depart the pier for the scenic drive down the east coast of the island, with a few stops along the way to admire Mayotte's picturesque beauty. Your drive then turns west and proceeds through lush vegetation en route to the Botanical Gardens, which dates from Colonial times and is run by the General Counsil of Mayotte. This lovely landmark is more than 4.9 acres (two hectares) in size, and features magnificent orchids, tropical flora and fauna, and spice gardens filled with fragrant cinnamon, ylang ylang and more.

Boueni's Bay and the Red Padzas

Next, re-board your coach and drive down the island's beautiful west coast. Pass by Boueni's Bay and continue on to Dapani, located on the south coast of the island. Upon arrival, marvel at the breath-taking Red Padzas, where the red earth, greenery, surrounding vegetation and blue lagoon combine to create a truly unforgettable sight. A stop is made to climb the stone stairway to the top, which offers spectacular panoramic views of your surrounds.

Bandrélé Mangrove

Your tour continues up the east coast of the island to the Bandrélé Mangrove. Here, learn about the art of salt-making by the Salt Queens, or 'Mama Shingos'. This ancestral technique is quite unique and completely natural, and creates salt that has a unique taste and is pure white in colour.

Lunch and Folkloric Show

Following your visit, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the Bambo Islet, which boasts long, beautiful, white-sand beaches and a magnificent baobab tree. Your lunch is accompanied by a women's folkloric show featuring music with local musical instruments known as 'mbiwis'. After lunch and some free time on the beach, re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity and walking on uneven terrain and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and access the top of the Red Padzas. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, insect repellent and raingear from the ship.

Excursions

Experience the undersea treasures of Mayotte without getting wet during this scenic and memorable glass-bottom boat excursion.

Depart the pier aboard a glass-bottom boat for the picturesque ride to the Barrier Reef. Upon arrival, proceed to the 'Pass en S', a renowned diving location situated directly along the Barrier Reef. As your captain plies the ancient riverbed, learn about this natural marine reserve and view its abundant coral species, colourful fish and diverse marine life. At the conclusion of your visit, commence the return ride back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of activity, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the boat. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and those who utilise a wheelchair; however, guests must be able to transfer from the wheelchair to the boat with minimal assistance. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with boat shoes, and bring sun protection, raingear and insect repellent from the ship.

Excursions

Explore the exquisite undersea beauty of Mayotte during this unforgettable, half-day snorkelling excursion.

Depart the pier aboard a Zodiac boat for the picturesque ride to one of the pristine snorkelling locales off the north or south coast of the island. Upon arrival, begin your guided snorkelling session in the crystal-clear water. Along the way, marvel at the abundant coral species, colourful fish, marine sponges, shellfish, nude branches, centipedes, and slugs. Assistance is provided on the boat and in the water.

Following your snorkelling session, local fruit juice and light snacks are served on board the Zodiac before commencing the return ride back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the Zodiac boat. This tour is recommended for guests who are proficient swimmers, and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear a swimsuit under a cover-up with beach or boat shoes, and bring sun protection, raingear and a towel from the ship. Operation of this tour is dependent on weather conditions.

Excursions

Embrace the incredibly scenic beauty of Mayotte during this memorable, half-day excursion to Petite Terre and the Dziani Lake.

Petite Terre and Dziani Lake

Depart the pier in Grand Terre Island for the short ferry-ride across the channel to Petite Terre Island. Upon arrival at this small island, board your awaiting coach and drive across the village of Labattoir en route to the entrance of the path leading to Dziani Lake. This beautiful volcanic lake is located in an old crater, and filled with emerald green water. The water in the crater is twice as salty as the Indian Ocean, and volcanic gasses bubble through it. Take a guided walk up to the summit, where some free time is made available to take in spectacular panoramic views of the crater and Grande Terre.

Badamiers

Next, walk back down the path, re-board your coach and proceed to Badamiers, where the road rises gently to a path encircling the lake. Along the way, marvel at the picturesque beauty of Dzaoudzi, Grande Terre in the distance and the turquoise waters of the great north-eastern coral reef.

Local Restaurant and Market

Your drive continues on to a local restaurant, where a refreshment stop is made for fruit juice and a tropical fruit snack. Afterward, visit a local market to explore the locally-grown fruit, vegetables and spices, including cassava, or 'maniocs', plantains, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, and more. Following your visit, drive back to the ferry and commence the short ferry-ride back to the pier in Grand Terre.

Please note:  This tour involves an extensive amount of walking over uneven terrain and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and embark/disembark the ferry-boat. This tour is recommended for guests in good physical condition, and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, insect repellent and water from the ship.

On arrival at Seronera airstrip, you are met and transferred through the renowned Serengeti National Park en route to the Four Seasons Lodge, enjoying a game-viewing drive en-route.

The Serengeti is arguably the most famous national park in the world; it perhaps defines the safari experience as surely as the wildlife that inhabit it. The famous short and long grass plains of the south slowly unfurl into the Acacia savannah of the central area, the hilly, more densely wooded areas of the north, and the extensive woodland in the western corridor, each with its own resident variations of African wildlife. The principal attraction of the Serengeti is the passing of the wildebeest migration: 1½ million wildebeest, and a retinue comprised of hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other plains game that follow close behind, stalked by the inevitable predators who make the most of the 'feast' close at hand.

The Four Seasons Lodge perfectly combines the intimacy of a lodge and the indulgence expected of a luxury hotel. Nestled within the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, in the vicinity of the great annual migration, the Four Seasons Lodge is a dream African hideaway offering spectacular views of wildlife, an active watering hole and superior accommodations.

Note: The precise timing of the Serengeti wildebeest migration is entirely dependent upon the rainfall patterns each year.

Dinner is enjoyed at the lodge.  Overnight at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.

DAY 3: SERENGETI

After breakfast, depart on a full day game viewing outing, accompanied by an experienced driver who also serves as your guide, thanks to his or her knowledge of the local area and its wildlife. Lunch boxes are available for a Four Seasons dining experience in the heart of the Serengeti, which is home to millions of stunning wildebeests during the migration period, as well as numerous species of birds and mammals, especially the big cats: leopards, cheetahs and lions.

Dinner is served again this evening at the lodge.  Overnight at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.

DAY 4: SERENGETI / NAIROBI

Following an early breakfast, check out and transfer to Seronera airstrip for your return flights to Nairobi.  You will once again fly via the airport at Kilimanjaro.  A Silversea representative is on hand to assist and provide packed picnic lunches.

Upon arrival at Nairobi airport, you are met again by the local representative and directed to your waiting vehicles.  Check in once again at the Norfolk Hotel. After you have had time to freshen up, enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the hotel.  Dinner this evening is on your own arrangements.

Overnight at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi

This description is a general overview of the highlights of this program. The local Silversea representative will do everything possible to insure that all of the sites described here are visited, though the tour sequence and specific sites mentioned is subject to change. Closure of some sites due to local or national holiday observances, flight schedules, weather or other factors may affect the program, and the local operator reserves the right to substitute other sites if necessary.

The contents and order of activities of this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice. Changes may be due to prevailing weather conditions and/or the movement of wildlife on the Game Reserve. Weather can be cool during early morning game drives in open vehicles when a windbreaker comes in handy. During the day, it can get extremely hot and sunhats, sun block and sunglasses are imperative. Remember to bring your camera and binoculars. Game drive vehicles traverse over uneven terrain making for 'bumpy' rides, and therefore are not recommended for anyone with back problems. This Land Adventure brings you close to nature; insects and other environmental exposure should be anticipated.

Gratuities to guides/drivers, meals and alcoholic drinks other than those noted in itinerary, and other personal expenses are not included in the price of this tour. This program is subject to a 100% penalty for any cancellation notices received 90 days or less prior to sailing.

All Land Adventure fares are subject to change and are not guaranteed until payment is received in full by Silversea.   All Land Adventures are non-transferable and non-refundable for any reason, within 90 days of sailing and are recommended to guests 18 years or age and older.  Our local operator reserves the right to substitute other sites if local situations, including holidays and weather, require.  Silversea shall have no obligation or liability of any kind to guests for the business practices, acts or omissions in connection with or arising out of arrangements with independent contractors, including but not limited to airline carriers, ground-tour operators, and hotels since they are neither agents for nor employees of Silversea Cruises. Silversea's liability does not extend beyond the vessel.

Perched above cool, swirling mists on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, the sumptuous safari suites at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge offer breath-taking views. Inspired in design by the Maasai mud and stick manyatta, or homestead, this is without doubt one of the most spectacular lodges in Africa.

Three separate and intimate camps totalling just 30 suites are reminiscent of a bygone era.

Steeped in romance, each stilted, handcrafted mud and thatch suite is adorned with graceful antiques, grand chandeliers and elegant African treasures. The bedroom, sitting room and en-suite bathroom boast floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the magnificent Crater below. Beaded chandeliers hang above large gilt mirrors, while antiques, billowing raw silk curtains and leather-backed chairs blend harmoniously with African art elements. En-suite bathrooms with a dramatic centrepiece of red roses feature spacious showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs. Personal butler discretely cater for each guest's every need, bringing tea in bed, stoking fireplaces and drawing luxurious bubble baths. Frequently described as Maasai meets Versailles, each camp has its own guest sitting and dining areas, as well as viewing decks. The domed dining room, with its fireplace, crystal, silver and massive wooden platters, turns every meal into a special occasion.

Dinner is served at the Lodge.  Overnight at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER

Its centrepiece, the Ngorongoro Crater, is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and the first sight of it is breathtaking. The floor of the crater is only 100 square miles but is home to around 30,000 animals, with a high concentration of predators.
