Professor ANDREW JAMESON has lived and travelled extensively in the Near East and Africa, and has led study groups to Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Iran, India, China, and Southeast Asia. He continues to lecture and write on African and Asia. He is currently Visiting Professor of History at Bosphorus University in Istanbul. Jameson holds doctorates in history from Harvard University and the University of Paris—Sorbonne, a Masters degree in library science from Simmons College in Boston, and a degree in archival management from Radcliffe College. He retired after forty-two years of academic teaching (Byzantine, Balkan, African History) at Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley, where he was Assistant Vice Chancellor.
