Alastair Bruce is the Royal, Constitutional and Religious Commentator for Sky News, the UK’s premier 24hr satellite news channel, for 12 years and commentates all Britain’s great occasions, including the Golden Jubilee of the Queen, and the funerals of both the Queen Mother and Diana, Princess of Wales (who he knew): the latter to a worldwide audience of 87.5million viewers. This year he also described events in Rome when John Paul II was laid to rest and Benedict XVI became Pope. Alastair regularly contributes to ABC and the BBC giving an insight to modern events with a historical perspective.
Alastair has written many books, including Days of Majesty and Keepers of the Kingdom. He likes to tell history in an entertaining way, in order to open the rich culture of the United Kingdom, its style and romance to as wide an audience as he can reach. He has worked with many independent production companies in the preparation of TV documentaries. Many are regularly aired on Public Broadcasting, Discovery and A&E channels. Among these are Nicholas and Alexandra, Victoria and Albert and Days of Majesty.
Alastair has lectured widely in Britain, Europe and the United States. His subjects range from the last Tsars of Russia, the life of Danish king Christian IX to an intimate knowledge of Britain’s monarchy and the Vatican in Rome. His family descends from Scotland’s greatest king, Robert the Bruce. These give him a deep and personal insight into the stories of Scotland. His sheer enthusiasm captures the audience and takes them on an illustrated journey in order to give them possession of their own story. His style, which springs from his charming and friendly background as the quintessential British gentleman, makes his performances quite unlike any other.
